Always love getting positive responses from our customers, new and old. In this case, a new customer is already happy with how we're turning tasks around faster than the previous team.We stood out over the old team because:1) We were available at a time when the other team usually wasn't2) We understood the issue right away and were able to find the fastest solution3) We communicated clearly the whole time so they knew we were taking care of it and were aware as soon as it was resolvedThese are simple things, but they make a big difference, and set the stage for more trust and more progress for everyone. One of the big reasons we got into business is because of all the stories we heard about dev teams failing to deliver for their clients. Over promising, dragging things out, failing to communicate, and overall acting like they didn't care. Knowing that we're helping our clients get away from those experiences so they can see what their tech can do when issues are resolved quickly and capably makes me proud to work with the team I do. #business #team #communication #goodreviews

Those who know me will know I like to plan. I plan everything out during Twixmas; set weekdays for working on the business each week, right down to the dates I'm going to see my folks throughout the year.During December I did a fair bit of train travel which let me explore a new idea, draft the concept and basic wireframes, and talk it through a developer. It seemed that this could have traction so decided to add it to my 2024 plan. Now, this is a pretty chunky task and it's going to take some work, so when planning my year out, I had to think about whether I was going to add the project activities to complete in "on the business" time, or whether it is going to need it's own time set aside as a separate project, and I had to consider my capacity. Most of the leg-work will be outsourced (particularly as I have no dev skills!), and I'm considering pulling in a fractional CTO to manage it through, so for now I'm allocating 0.5 days a week to the project.I'd love to know, from those of you who have developed apps alongside your usual day job, what lessons you learned.

In 2021, I joined Lounge (acquired by Pulse/Mozilla) to lead development of the web experience platform. Before me, the company had hired someone way more experienced (in years) than I am, but he failed to hit the mark. Why? He tried to throw too much tech at the problem without focusing on the product need at that stage of the company. On the contrast, when I joined, I built the first release of the web platform in three months all on simple tech without wasting time on complex tools. It supported:- Low-latency audio calls- Notifications- User presence trackingHow did I achieve that much in a short period? The answer is “Simple tech”!#simpleisbetter #softwareengineering #softwaredevelopment #softwarearchitecture

🌟 Turning Passion into Practice: Introducing Home Harmony 🌟What does a software engineer do between job hunts and seeking out inspiring teams? Dive into a passion project, of course!🔍 The GenesisInitially, Home Harmony was my playground for exploring the capabilities of .Net 8 and Blazor WASM. But, as we all know, software is a team sport.🤝 The PivotI decided to turn this solo mission into a collective journey. I reached out to a fantastic group of developers and QAs to form a self-organizing team. Admittedly, it wasn't without its challenges, but that's what Agile is all about—adapt and overcome.👥 Community-Centric ApproachTo add another layer of collaboration and engagement, we are building a community around the Home Harmony experience. Your perspectives and feedback will not only enrich the final product but also the development process itself.🎙️ Media PotentialGiven the community-driven, Agile nature of this project, there's an intriguing story here that could easily make its way into podcasts and YouTube channels. Yesterday, was the first full day of our Swishboom 2.0 version. Anyone in engineering, software, or tech know that when you launch anything new, things happen. Bugs/Glitches/Change all create for a stressful time. I was up till 11pm answering emails and making sure we had the right bugs logged for our engineers to work on this morning. Today, I got an email from a dad who had booked his 1st Swishboom job and had a glitch. After a few back and forth emails on solutions, he said "I can tell your business will be successful because of your response time and caring responses." Amongst Chelsea Driscoll, Holly Kell 🎬, and myself - we call this core value in doing anything we do is "Give a Damn." Technology isn't perfect, but humans can humanize the process while the technology gets to where it needs to be. P.S this photo is me juggling having empathy + solutions. The perfect combo for endearing customers when things aren't perfectly smooth. 😎
